Who is behind the Forest?
The Forest of Avon is being created by a partnership of local interests including Bath and North East Somerset Council, Bristol City Council, North Somerset Council, South Gloucestershire Council, the Wildlife Trust, BTCV, FWAG, the Woodland Trust and a host of local communities, farmers, landowners and businesses. Together they all have a vital role to play in the transformation of the area – one million people live in and around the Forest of Avon and no one organisation could achieve the Forest's vision!
The Forest of Avon works to six main nationally set priorities:
- Creating New Woodlands
- Securing access to, and good management of, existing woodlands
- Creating or re-opening good quality walking/ cycling/ riding networks within the Forest
- Securing involvement in the Community Forest by a wide range of communities and individuals
- Securing financial investment from local businesses and external sources
- Securing landscape, heritage and bio-diversity benefits on the non-wooded parts of the Community Forest – through creating and restoring hedgerows and other habitat features.

Detailed information on the Forest of Avon’s strategy for the future and what has been achieved over the past ten years can be obtained from the current Forest Plan.
