Tree Wardens
Tree Wardens are volunteers appointed by their community group or Parish Council to be trained in a range of tree issues. Tree wardens work locally within a specified area and can choose how much time they devote to 'tree-wardening'.
All of the work carried out by tree wardens is invaluable, and essential to the growth and development of the Forest of Avon for the future.
As a Tree Warden you are not expected to be an expert on the subject overnight! The Tree Warden action pack, TreeWise Training, and your local council’s Tree Officer will provide support and advice on the basics.
What do Tree Wardens Do?
Practical Projects... tree planting, tree walks, woodland management, growing trees from seeds and creating tree nurseries. Community involvement is always key to achieving these projects successfully, and it is the role of the tree warden to ensure as much community involvement as possible. All these activities help the Forest of Avon to grow and develop in the future.
Local liaison... providing a contact point for the local community on tree related matters or presenting talks to schools or societies.
Gather Information... collecting existing data or carrying out a surveys to provide project ideas and background information about trees.
The Forest of Avon Coordinates a network of Tree Wardens and currently provides training for 50 wardens living in and around the Forest of Avon. The Tree Warden Scheme is a national initiative promoted by the Tree Council. Visit www.treecouncil.co.uk to find out more.

The Tree Life Centre also undertakes woodland management work, community and private planting events.
Volunteers are vital to the Tree Life Centre and are always warmly welcomed. Supported by the Project Manager or trained Volunteer Officers, courses in practical environmental skills are available for regular volunteers. For more information call 0117 960 5447.
